About Gino and Carlo
Although the North Beach area of San Francisco has had its share of changes over the years one of the places that remains the same is Gino and Carlo - an unpretentious Italian bar that opened up in 1942. It's a block off of Columbus Avenue just around the corner from Arata Fine Art Gallery and Stella Pastry. I was drawn to Gino and Carlo, it's charming architecture and colorful exterior - although I jazzed it up a bit for my painting.
Gino and Carlo is a neighborhood institution and I'm told that Ron Minolli, a bartender and part-owner, has been a fixture at the bar for more than 30 years and knows all the regulars, and sometimes knows their parents and grandparents, too.
Recently, we visited Gino and Carlo, where we met some of the afternoon regulars who frequent this classic neighborhood gathering place. We had the opportunity to meet co-owners Frank Rossi Jr. and Marco Rossi and present them with an art print of "Gino and Carlo's."
The painting "Gino and Carlo's" will be on display in Donna's four scheduled solo art shows in 2013-14.
