I know the statute of limitations has probably passed on this bit of local history and my grandkids are too young to be able to read this, but Mankas Corner brings back memories of the night my best friend, Katy, and I thought we'd accompany our next door neighbor, Reed, while he "practiced" driving his dad's car around the Suisun Valley Loop. We were in eighth grade and we weren't with his dad. It was dark and I remember how quickly the "Y" at Mankas Corner appeared in front of us and how astutely Reed managed to slam on the breaks and maneuver (fishtail) his dad's Ranchero out of a somewhat tight situation. Mankas Corner looked very different as compared to our daytime bike rides on our way to the Twin Sisters Bridge. Now don't ask me what happened after we left Mankas Corner that night - that's a story for another day.
